In our previous articles, we looked at stamps honoring famous figures like Clint Eastwood, John F. Kennedy, Bob Dylan, Charlie Chaplin, and Marilyn Monroe. Today, we turn our attention to another iconic cultural figure - Paul McCartney - whose legacy as a musician, songwriter, and member of The Beatles has also been commemorated through philately.
Paul McCartney was born on June 18, 1942, in Liverpool, England, into a working-class family. His father, a jazz musician, encouraged him to get into music and gave him a trumpet, which Paul later swapped for a guitar. As a teenager, he joined John Lennon’s band, The Quarrymen, and quickly stood out thanks to his musical skills, songwriting talent, and strong sense of harmony. Over time, his partnership with Lennon grew stronger, eventually leading to the creation of The Beatles - one of the most important and influential bands in music history.

Paul McCartney became world-famous as a member of The Beatles, where he played bass, sang, and wrote songs. He and John Lennon wrote many classic songs together, including “Hey Jude”, “Let It Be”, and “Yesterday”.
In the 1960s, The Beatles changed popular music with their new sound, creative albums, and huge influence on culture. By the time the band broke up in 1970, McCartney was already known as one of the biggest names in music.
Paul McCartney left The Beatles because of personal, creative, and business problems within the band. Each member wanted to go in a different musical direction. After their manager, Brian Epstein, died, there was a lot of confusion about who should handle the band’s business.
Paul didn’t agree with hiring Allen Klein as manager, but the others supported him. All these disagreements and growing tension led Paul to leave the band in 1970.

He later started a new band called Wings with his wife Linda, and they had big hits like “Live and Let Die” and “Band on the Run”. Wings became one of the top bands of the 1970s. In the 1980s, Paul worked with stars like Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder. He kept making music, going on tours, and winning awards for many years.
