2018 has just started and we are still greeting our family, friends, colleagues that PostNord (Denmark) releases today two stamp issues and a miniature sheet.

From 1 January 2018, it will cost DKK 9 to send a standard letter (weighing max. 50 g) to addresses in Denmark and DKK 27 to adresses abroad (up to 100g).

Bjørn Wiinblad Centenary

Taking as his motto “Make people happy”, the famous Danish artist Bjørn Wiinblad crafted his distinctive works in a sumptuous, oriental-inspired style, distinguished by a host of colours and heavy decoration. 2018 marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of this peerless artist and designer, and PostNord has chosen to celebrate the event by issuing a 10-strip featuring five of Bjørn Wiinblad’s finest images.

Roses

One of the things letters and roses have in common is that they are both used to convey messages. For centuries, the subtlety of the rose has been deeply symbolic, so there is always an underlying message in which bouquet you give to whom. The red rose is strongly associated with love and desire, while the white rose represents innocence and purity. And death. A purple rose is often linked with enchantment, and finally, a yellow rose is viewed as an expression of falsehood.

PostNord has issued a 10-strip featuring roses in five colours, so you can send your letters on their way with different messages. As from 1 January 2018, the price of sending an international letter weighing up to 100 g will be DKK 27.

Yoko Ono

At the age of 84, the world-famous artist Yoko Ono is making her debut as a stamp designer. The minisheet of two stamps created on the initiative of Yoko Ono features strong universal messages such as “Dream”, written in the centre of a yellow moon, and “Smile”, which adorns the heart of a yellow sun. This issue gives Danish letter-writers and tourists alike the opportunity to send greetings decorated with Yoko Ono’s messages of peace and understanding to friends
and family around the globe.

Exhibiting at Charlottenborg

Yoko Ono has devoted her life to battling for a world of peace and understanding, and to making people more aware of their surroundings. From October 2017 through February 2018, the Kunsthal Charlottenborg art gallery
in Copenhagen is hosting a special exhibition entitled YOKO ONO: TRANSMISSION. It is an exhibition that explores the famous artist’s unique methods of transmitting her insightful messages about artistic philosophy
and peace in diverse ways to people all over the world. The minisheet of two stamps has been created specifically for this exhibition.

The minisheet is being issued as an extension of the “YOKO ONO: TRANSMISSION” exhibition being hosted at Kunsthal Charlottenborg art gallery in Copenhagen. The exhibition also features 900 billboards set up at bus stops all over Denmark, as well as radio transmissions and newspaper advertisements. If you visit Kunsthal Charlottenborg before 18 February 2018, you can see all the works, including an exhibition about how the stamps were created, from the first rough sketches to the final versions.
