The catalog is organized according to collection areas. Cataloging within these sections is chronological, based on issue date. Special stamp types, like official stamps, are located at the end of a collection area section. In order to assist collectors organize their stamps, numerous illustrations are provided, as well as information on similar stamps to help avoid possible mix-ups.

Specially classic issues from Russia are extremely popular. Above all, the price increases of items that are already among the expensive special   pieces of Russian philately are noticeable. The listed values of some of them has risen from 4 digits to 5 digits (such as MiNo. 4x) in this new MICHEL edition. However, in 2021 it pays off to take another close look at the less spectacular items of an Empire collection. That is because the most inexpensive stamps of a set, such as MiNo. 18, which originally cost 1 kopeck, enjoyed a considerable increase in value in the last year. The Michel Catalog Russland und Sowjetunion 2021/2022 (E16) is Volume 16 of the Europe series, which consists of a total of 16 titles. It features the popular collection areas of the Russian Empire, the RSFSR, the USSR and the Russian Federation.

The latest edition is even more comprehensive and precise than its predecessor. We have added numerous new MICHEL numbers, many editorial changes and improvements. These include three newly discovered Soviet perforation variations. In general we adapted the recording of the issues to the latest state of research and updated same in many areas. Additional information regarding forgeries will help to protect collectors from potential financial damages.

The revision and updating of price quotations was one area the Editorial Team focused on. You will find increases nearly throughout the whole period of the Russian Empire and the RSFSR. Several items formerly priced in the four-digit range now have a value in the five-digit range. We have also noticed an increasing demand for rare se-tenant printings of the Russian Federation. Stamp booklets show fluctuations as well. Concerning the USSR, mainly the cancelled stamps in use up to the end of the 1950s, but also some issues in mint condition and type variations now have higher price quotations.
