Australia (with Australian areas in Antarctica, Coconut, Christmas Island and Norfolk Island), British areas in Antarctica, Cook Islands (with Aitutaki, Penrhyn, Rarotonga), Falkland Islands (with South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands), Fiji -Islands, French Antarctic Territories, French Polynesia, Kiribati, Marshall Islands (Republic), Micronesia.
The countries of the southern hemisphere catalogued in this MICHEL volume offer popular collection areas. In the new edition, you can clearly see an increased interest in more recent stamps: Many Australian editions from the turn of the millennium onwards have been able to increase their ratings in the four years since the last Australia volume was published.
MiNo. 2526 with the gold medal winner Dale Begg-Smith at the 2006 Winter Olympics
in Turin, for example, is now listed with a triple appraised value.
The series of light-blue MICHEL Overseas editions is continued with the Michel Catalog Australien Ozeanien 2020-2021 Australia, Oceania, Antarctica. This first part contains the countries that start with A-M. A significant change in the design should be noted: The issues of the Norfolk Island are now listed after Australia and no longer separately in the volume that covers the countries starting with N-Z. This is due to the fact that since Januar 1st, 2017, the Norfolk Island has been linked more closely to Australia in administrative as well as postal matters and has now therefore the same status as, for instance, the Cocos Islands, the stamps of which you will also find listed after Australia.
Another striking change is the new translation of the name of the country, ”Terres Australes et Antarctiques Françaises“, into “French Southern and Antarctica Territories”. Particularly since various archipelagoes located around Madagaskar, i.e. in the Tropics, were assigned to the administration of this territory several years ago, the new name indicates the actual situation better than the former term “French Territories in Antarctica“.
In addition to these two formal modifications, all other specifications were naturally revised and expanded if applicable. That particularly applies to any details regarding sheet formats and other details of the description of the stamps. Furthermore many black-and-white pictures have been replaced with new colour photos so that now we are very close to reaching our goal to showcase all issues in colour.
The edit of appraisals has shown numerous changes, not only regarding the core collection area this volume focuses on, i.e. Australia, but also concerning other areas, which have enjoyed many increases in value, specially during the period since the Year 2000. The trader camp of stamps issued in that time is most likely to be rather low.
All novelties published in MICHEL Rundschau up to and including No. 8/2020 have been taken into consideration, enabling us to include issues up to the summer of 2020 for some countries. In those areas where we were unable to record the latest issues we usually have no information about any other issues apart from the last issue catalogued by us. That date is November 2015 regarding Micronesia. Any other novelties will be presented in MICHEL Rundschau as of No. 9/2020 or in MICHEL Online. A subscription to either pays off!
Again we were supported by many assistants while preparing this new edition. We want to take this opportunity to express our gratitude to all of you.
The Michel Catalog Australien Ozeanien 2020-2021 Volume 1 featuring the countries A–M will enable you to dream about the South Seas, which is hard to visit in person these days. And what would be a better time of the year to dream about the South Seas and to at least bring it home in the form of stamps than winter in the Northern hemisphere?

Nauru, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Niuafo'ou Island, Niue, Norfolk Island, Palau Islands, Papua New Guinea, Penrhyn, Pitcairn, Ross Dependency, Solomon Islands, Samoa, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, Wallis and Futuna.
Geographically, the collection areas contained in this new MICHEL edition are very far apart. And if stamps were issued a long time ago, finding these issues and professionally scanning them in colour can be a real challenge. So our editorial team is very pleased that so many new colour photos could be added to all collection areas presented in this latest edition.
Particularly the stamps Wallis and Futuna issued in the first years present themselves in brilliant colours. Now all issues of that collection area are illustrated in colour, as you can see on Page 1016 as depicted here. That will make browsing through this edition even more aesthetically pleasant and checking up on specific issues a lot easier.

We conclude the current revision of stamps issued by the Australian, Antarctic and Pacific territories with this Michel Catalog Australien Ozeanien 2020-2021 Volume 2 (N to Z) (German names of countries). By doing so, we have updated that section of the MICHEL Overseas volumes to the latest state of research.
You will notice one important new detail of this edition at first glance: It contains even more photos – and particularly colour pictures – of stamps. The issues of most of the states included in this volume are now completely in colour; others are only missing a few colour photos, most of which are stamps from the classic period.
Other striking improvements include a chart that provides a quick overview of current postage stamps from New Zealand; furthermore we also included the description of the “general issues for the French Colonies“ contained in MICHEL Europe Western Europe (Europe Volume 3) at the end of this edition for your information. Prior to issuing their own stamps, these issues were used for New Caledonia as well as for Wallis and Futuna.
Moreover, this edition provides a wealth of additions and improvements in regards to the descriptions of stamps that includes too many aspects to list them all here. And again we carefully reviewed the appraisals of all stamps, which led to many changes.
We recorded as many novelties as possible, in some cases all new issues up to the summer of 2020. Generally the processing of novelties is becoming increasingly difficult since the policies of issuing stamps are becoming more and more complicated in some countries. While the previous edition of this MICHEL title reflected an extraordinarily large number of novelties issued for the Solomon Islands, we have not learned of any more novelties after 2018. And there are times when we hear of novelties that are supposedly being issued without being able to locate them anywhere yet. Who says collecting stamps was a monotonous affair?
As always, we will catalogue future stamp novelties in MICHEL Rundschau and MICHEL Online, so it pays off to subscribe to either if you want to stay updated.
We wish to thank all of our assistants and readers who have contributed to the improvement and expansion of MICHEL Overseas Volume 7.2 for their selfless support. Every one of them has made a valuable contribution by sharing their expert knowledge about stamps and making it accessible to others.
At a time when it is a challenge to travel to these countries, their stamps are accessible objects that tell us more about these foreign shores. The Michel Catalog Australien Ozeanien 2021 Countries N to Z provides that access to any collector.
