NVPH Catalogus Postzegels Nederland 2021

Foreword From the Catalog Committee (Translation)

We hereby present to you the 2021 edition of the NVPH Catalogus Postzegels Nederland 2021. It is the second edition in this form with only Dutch stamps including specialties, deviations, etc.

As a result of the corona measures, the catalog committee met and discussed less than in other years. Despite many improvements and price adjustments in this edition, a number of adjustments have therefore been pushed to the NVPH Special Catalog of the Netherlands and Overseas territories to be published in September 2021.

Again many records were broken in the past year in auction proceeds for old MNH material. At good quality, prices were sometimes achieved that were far above the catalog value. As a result, important price increases for classic MNH material and pre-war stamp booklets have again been included.

If we look at the first five series in the Netherlands, the price development of the catalog value over 10 years is as follows: 1st issue from € 8.100 to € 10.250, 2nd issue from € 8.750 to € 10.600, 3rd issue from € 51.700 to € 204.500, 4th issue from € 5.975 to € 9.030 and the 5th issue from € 26.550 to € 38.100.

However, it is clear that this image does not apply to all Dutch stamps. In particular, of the cheaper pre-war and almost all post-war material up to 2010, there is more supply than demand, which means that this material is regularly traded, certainly in collections and lots, significantly below or far below the catalog value. The quoted catalog value is often largely a reflection of the ever-increasing costs for a trader, such as the (labor)costs of sorting, storage, helping customers and packing and packing orders in the event of sales by stamp or series.

We hear from many dealers that in the first half of 2020 there will certainly be more demand for more general material. This of course has to do with the rediscovery of stamp collecting by many who now spend more time at home and can further complete their collection for little money.

All prices of unused and postal stamps in this catalog are for copies with original gum. We would like to emphasize that a stamp may look fresh, but has a newly applied gum layer (after gumming). Such a stamp is not worth more than an unused copy without gum. In practice, this is a maximum of half of an unused copy with original gum and a patch or adhesive trace. When in doubt, you can consult a NVPH dealer or submit the stamps to the NVPH for inspection committee (see: www.nvph.nl).

We thank you for your comments and additions that we have received and with which we have been able to improve this catalog. We will be happy to include new comments and suggestions when editing the next edition. You can send your comments by e-mail to [email protected].

We hope you enjoy your stamp collection.

About the NVPH

In 2018, the editiorial committee NVPH has adapted its publication agenda to accommodate and meet the wishes of the stamps collectors of the Netherlands. Until 2018, the NVPH committee published yearly a Special Catalogus of the Netherlands and Overseas Territories, and a so-called Junior catalog of the Netherlands.

The Junior Catalog is no longer be published and was replaced by the NVPH catalogus Nederland. The NVPH catalogus Nederland will be published the even years in September (2018, 2020,..) whereas the NVPH Special Catalogus Nederland & Overzeese gebiedsdelen the odd year in September as well (2019, 2021,...)

The first edition of the NVPH catalogus Nederland 2019 catalogs only the stamps of the Netherlands. The content is more extensive and provides all necessary information such as plate numbers, perforations and types of post stamps and, where possible, other details, errors and misprints. Are also present the stamp bookletsairmail stamps, postage due, service marks, telegram stamps, internment stamps, machine brands, blueprints, postage paid stamps and a special section roll stamps perforation. This 1st edition again contains many additions, text changes, improvements and extensive information including types and perforations.

In short, a bit less than the NVPH Special Catalogus because sections such as pre-war stamp booklets, first day covers, plate errors, stamps on covers are missing in this edition (as well as the overseas territories).

The first edition was published with the 16th edition of the Blueprint was added and also a transparent and black perforation meter.  The catalog commission of the NVPH intended to make this catalog user friendly to worldwide by including a glossary of common terms in use in the catalog in several languages (English, Spanish and Chinese).
