Collectors of Vatican post stamps know the PHILEX Vatican catalog is a very good alternative to specialized catalogs of Vatican because its format is very handy and it offers a regular and reliable source for cataloging of stamps of Vatican. The catalog is updated every year whereas some other catalogs on the same country are updated less frequently. Thanks to its pocket size dimensions (1x10x14cm) and weight (125g), the catalog PHILEX Vatican 2020 (124 pages) can accompany you in your trips. If you are familiar with the Michel numbering system and conventions, you will browse the catalog with ease. Each issue is clearly identified by a keyword next to the face value and picture in high resolution color, with the date of issue when known, the dimensions, perforations, paper type, watermarks or special mentions like phosphore bands, tab inscriptions, and more. Explanations are provided for the non German reader for the symbols and acronyms at the beginning of the catalog and last pages are reserved for personal notes.
The catalog list the definitive and commemorative issues, air mail, postage due, service stamps, automate (FRAMA), booklets, tête bêche. At the end of the catalog, PHILEX proposes a table of the year set prices which is very useful as it gives an overview of the price stability and issuance policy in stamps by Vatican Post.
The PHILEX catalogs are an aid to the stamp Collector, providing a fast and clear overview of the collection and to assist when buying new stamps issues. The descriptions of each stamp contain the most important information. Collectors of special issues should refer to detailed literature.
The values provided in the catalog reflect current prices at time of going to press within the eurozone for first quality stamps. For other quality stamps, a reduction in price is to be applied. Prices may be higher than the values in catalog for mint stamps in perfect condition, intact gum and for first day postmarked issues. Unless otherwise stated, the quotes in the catalog in the first column indicate stamps in mint condition; also for earlier issues which are mounted on hinges. The second column indicates values of used stamps.
The first catalog of the publisher PHILEX, the PHILEX Deutschland catalog, appeared in 1960, at a time when the demand for a handy catalog became more and more apparent. From this beginning - a black and white catalog of 256 pages - Philex developed numerous catalogs from various European countries. In terms of shape, PHILEX has opted for the handy pocket format right from the start. The handy size of the catalogs gives the user the opportunity to use them when during the visit of the specialist dealer or a fair or at a stamp club reunion. PHILEX catalogs follow the Michel numbering system for the cataloging of the stamps. The philosophy of the PHILEX publisher is that the entire range of PHILEX catalogs should never claim to reach or even surpass prices of special catalogs for different collection areas, and shall provide the collector of a particular area with the highest level of information.
The PHILEX Deutschland catalog reached almost 700 pages in the 2008 edition. To keep the ease of use as easy to use as it has been for decades, the editorial committee of the catalog decided to split the catalog in 2 volumes us in 2009 (49th edition).
