2021 witnessed a lot of changes, particularly in the Polish stamp market: While issues from the 1980s have been exposed to price pressure, the latest edition of the MICHEL Eastern Europe lists increases in the value of classic as well as more recent issues, some of which have shown considerably higher prices. The price quotations for cancelled specimens of the set MiNo. 191 to MiNo. 200 from 1924, for instance, have gone up from € 720 to € 1,100. The catalog is organized according to collection areas. Cataloging within these sections is chronological, based on issue date. Special stamp types, like official stamps, are located at the end of a collection area section. In order to assist collectors organize their stamps, numerous illustrations are provided, as well as information on similar stamps to help avoid possible mix-ups.

Last year presented the human race with enormous challenges. Philatelists, who have been able to pursue their hobby in the safe environment of their homes, can consider themselves to be lucky. The selected stamps on the cover document the perspective of various postal administrations on the Corona pandemic.

The Michel Catalog Osteuropa 2021/2022 (E15) is Volume 15 of the Europe series, which totals 16 volumes. It contains the popular collection areas of the Carpathian Ukraine, Poland, Ukraine, Belarus and Western Ukraine.

This new edition is even more comprehensive and precise than the former edition. We included numerous new MICHEL numbers as well as lots of editorial changes and improvements. 66 new colour photos make it easier for collectors to identify their treasures. New hyperlinks to greeting cards of the Ukraine with identical or similar motifs are helpful as well. In general, we adapted the recording of the stamps to the latest state of research. For issues from Western Ukraine that means that 53 type variations have been newly included.

The revision and updating of price quotations was another editorial focal point. Most fluctuations occurred among Polish issues. We have found numerous price increases concerning specimens in mint condition and cancelled specimens up to around 1960. While stamps issued during the 1980s have been exposed to price pressure, stamps issued after the end of the communist era are also increasing in value. For reasons of precision and to prevent any misunderstandings regarding the appraisal of cancelled issues, we entered a third price column for the years around the Polish monetary reform (1950–1956). We now appraise issues that were cancelled because they were used and stamps that were cancelled as a favour.

This edition features all novelties listed in MICHEL Rundschau up to and including No. 11/2021. A subscription starting with Issue No. 12/2021 or to MICHEL Online is recommended so as not to miss any future novelties. Besides cataloguing novelties, MICHEL Rundschau provides information about anything of interest in the field of philately.
