The catalog is organized according to collection areas. Cataloging within these sections is chronological, based on issue date. Special stamp types, like official stamps, are located at the end of a collection area section. In order to assist collectors organize their stamps, numerous illustrations are provided, as well as information on similar stamps to help avoid possible mix-ups.

Travelling to the territories of the MICHEL title Australia, Oceania, Antarctica has always been an adventure. Recently – more than 100 years after it had failed - another particularly well-known Antarctica expedition was discussed in all the media around the world. This year the discovery of the “Endurance”, which had sunk in November of 1915, thrilled researchers since the shipwreck is still in a remarkably good condition after all these years. The expedition, led by the Polar researcher Ernest Shackelton, had originally been intended to cross the Antarctic continent for the very first time, yet it made history because nearly the whole crew could be rescued despite all setbacks and adversities after the mission had failed all too soon. Numerous stamps from the British territories in Antarctica show images of that famous expedition. So the philatelic journey into that solitary collection area is an adventure trip of its own – albeit without the perils of pack ice, frostbites and starvation. The Michel Catalog Australien Ozeanien Antarktis 2022 (A-M) ÜK 7/1 contains the issues from all countries in the greater area of Australia, Oceania and Antarctica that start with the letters A–M. These territories now provide collectors with insights into the South Seas, which are currently not easy to travel to. All countries featured in this edition are represented from the beginning up to the latest available issues.

As we do prior to any new edition of a MICHEL title, we have thoroughly revised all descriptions as well as prices and updated same if required. There is a tendency of increased prices among issues of the Australian states, in particular New South Wales and Queensland. All areas in this edition have been updated.

While processing this edition, we were able to replace several old photos by clearer scans. In addition the photos of numerous novelties that had been recorded between the 41st Edition 2020/2021 and the 42nd Edition 2022 have been included. These are nearly 1100 new MICHEL numbers, making this reference book even more convenient for collectors than previous editions.

New issues published in MICHEL Rundschau up to and including No. 4/2022 are featured in this edition; therefore issues up to 2022 could be taken into consideration depending on the availability of information. The subscription to MICHEL Rundschau as of No. 5/2022 or of MICHEL Online is recommended so as to keep your cataloguing updated and not miss any of the later issues.
