The catalog is organized according to collection areas. Cataloging within these sections is chronological, based on issue date. Special stamp types, like official stamps, are located at the end of a collection area section. In order to assist collectors organize their stamps, numerous illustrations are provided, as well as information on similar stamps to help avoid possible mix-ups.

The small Baltic state of Estonia is also a small collection area which has a lot to offer: Many special issues and type variations make these stamps – particularly classic issues – the perfect specialised collection area. Since many philatelists have apparently discovered that fact, the general price level of Estonian type variations is rather high by now.Therefore collectors who already have such desirable items in their collections may rejoice: The appraisals for nearly all early type variations issued by Estonia have been adjusted to considerably higher values that reflect the increased demand. The Michel Catalog Baltikum und Finnland 2023/2024 (E11) (Baltic Region and Finland) contains the popular collection areas of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania as well as Finland with the issues of the autonomous Åland Region. Our MICHEL Europe catalogues are essential reference books for any committed philatelist. They provide versatile and easy-to-find information about classic stamps as well as modern curiosities.
The occasions for issuing stamps reflect current affairs. Philately can thus make a valuable contribution to the international understanding even in times as challenging as currently.

The editorial improvements cover the whole edition. Current research findings have led to the recording of five new paper and colour variations of Finnish issues. On the other hand we had to delete three sub-numbers as these turned out to be non-existent. We were also able to add five new Latvian and Lithuanian type variations. And regarding Litauen, we supplemented the information about the postal validity.

As always, one editorial focal point was the revision and updating of price quotations. We mainly directed our focus on the first 75 years of issues from Finland as well as the sub-areas of parcel post stamps and military mail stamps. Our intensive revision unearthed a great number of price fluctuations, most of which are increases. In particular the Finnish FDCs from the 1920s and 1930s have been growing considerably in value. Estonian type variations and special issues from that period have also received higher appraisals, as well as the local issues from Rakvere and Tallinn. We also found price changes of stamps issued in Latvia during the time between the two world wars. Here, specially the airmail stamps are in demand. And we were able to list the first appraisals for several Lithuanian perforation variations.

This volume contains all novelties presented in MICHEL Rundschau up to and including No. 8/2023.
