The Michel Catalog Südamerika 2023 (ÜK 3/2) – Volume 2 K-Z Countries features the issues of the territories of Columbia with all of its subsections, Paraguay, Peru, the private air mail stamps of Sociedad Colombo Alemana de Transporte Aéreo (SCADTA), Surinam, Uruguay and Venezuela. Bonus pages showcase the stamps of the Central American country of Panama issued prior to the country’s independence when it was a stamp-issuing member state of the Confederation of New Granada, respectively Columbia, as were Antioquia, Bolívar, Boyacá, Cundinamarca, Santander, and Tolima.

The issues listed in this edition are a true treasure trove for collectors of countries and motifs. The large number of stamps with animal motifs reflects the versatility of the South American fauna. The past years saw large numbers of issues by most South American postal systems. Thus, more than 1,300 new stamps have been issued since the last edition, whereby Columbia has contributed nearly fifty percent of all novelties. The Venezuelan issues since 2021, which apparently have not made it across the border yet, make for exciting discoveries. Due to severe currency turbulences and the rampant inflation in that country no new stamps had been issued at all for several years.
