The catalog is organized according to collection areas. Cataloging within these sections is chronological, based on issue date. Special stamp types, like official stamps, are located at the end of a collection area section. In order to assist collectors organize their stamps, numerous illustrations are provided, as well as information on similar stamps to help avoid possible mix-ups.

A lot has been researched and discovered in the philately of the Western Balkans last year, which is reflected in this new MICHEL edition, in many new MICHEL numbers, editorial supplements and specific details. Specially the current issues of these collection areas provide plenty of opportunities for specialization and novel discoveries in one’s own collection. One of many examples of such contemporary new findings is the Slovenian MiNo. 1062 featuring a Ural owl as one motif of the postage stamp series “Domestic Birds“, which comes in various paper and perforation variations. Michel Catalog Westlicher Balkan 2022 (E6) is the sixth title of the sixteen volumes of our Europe series. It focuses on the popular collection areas of Yugoslavia and their successor states Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Croatia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia and Slovenia as well as the issues of Zone B of Trieste.

It offers friends of classic philately a vast collection area with the issues of the 19th and early 20th centuries. These countries are also a true treasure chest for collectors of motifs. Practically all popular themes and motifs are generously represented. Yet stamps are no longer rectangular pieces of paper used to pay a service in advance. For several years the postal administrations have been breathing new life into philately by introducing fancy formats, unusual printing methods and new materials.

Editorial improvements can be found throughout the new volume. Regarding Slovenian issues, we have discovered reprints of current postage stamps; concerning Yugoslavia, we have unearthed the faulty print of a special issue. Issues from Kosovo show distinct differences, depending on whether they were produced for postal or philatelic demand. Collectors of issues from Trieste will be thrilled about newly discovered perforations and paper variations.

The revision and updating of price quotations was one focal point. We have found increases in value mainly among interesting motifs and postage stamps. The minaret misprint of Bosnia and Herzegovina has, for instance, increased in value. FDCs are also among the winners. The demand for the Yugoslavian issues for Istria and the Slovenian coastal area is reflected in notably higher appraisals. We have also adapted the large number of tariff-coded Slovenian issues to the current price situation.

This edition contains all novelties featured in MICHEL Rundschau up to and including No.4/2022.
