The catalog is organized according to collection areas. Cataloging within these sections is chronological, based on issue date. Special stamp types, like official stamps, are located at the end of a collection area section. In order to assist collectors organize their stamps, numerous illustrations are provided, as well as information on similar stamps to help avoid possible mix-ups.

After the violent suppression of the "Prague Spring" by Warsaw Pact troops, however, it was postponed and the stamp issues destroyed - or so it was thought. Now, however, mint copies have surfaced and have been included as MiNr. IV and V in the MICHEL Central Europe 2023. On MiNo. 73 the Turul bird, a hybrid between an eagle and a falcon that makes many an appearance in Hungarian myths, is flying over the Holy Crown of Hungary. Numerous stamps that depicted that motif were issued at the beginning of the 20th Century; now they can be spotted a lot easier in the MICHEL Central Europe.

The Michel Catalog Mitteleuropa 2023 (E2) includes the popular collection areas of Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Czechoslovakia and Hungary.

Our MICHEL Europe catalogues are indispensable reference works for every committed philatelist. Here, you will find diverse and well-organised information on classic stamps as well as modern curiosities. The issues also reflect current events. Philately can therefore make a valuable contribution to international understanding, especially in these trying times.

The new edition is even more comprehensive and precise than its predecessor. Numerous new MICHEL numbers have been included and many editorial changes and improvements have been made. In the case of Czechoslovakia, two unissued stamps of 1968 come to honour in this edition. As a result of the suppression of the Prague Spring, the prepared issue was (mostly) destroyed. A previous forgery hint on MiNo. 498 turned out to be a genuine variety and so we are now listing it. For the "Hluboká" revolutionary issue we now differentiate between various overprint colours. The set of stamps in colour "b" reaches a four-digit valuation.

In Slovakia we adjusted the values of tariff-coded stamps to the current postage rates. The imperforated varieties of the "Slovak State" are also increasing in price. In addition to such specialities, miniature sheets and souvenir sheets across the collection areas are also among the top gainers.

In the case of Hungary, we point out that the stamps from the era of the People's Republic were withdrawn from circulation. In addition, we continue our listing of the post office's own reprints of sheets of greetings stamps with customisable ornamental tablets. Cross-references between Slovak self-adhesive and wet adhesive stamps with the same motifs provide further orientation for the collector.
