The first official crypto stamps were issued by the National Post Office of Gibraltar on 2018/05/15. Many countries did the same thing later. Some of them are Austria, Croatia, Japan, Netherlands, Poland, Switzerland and United Nations. Today we’ll take a look at Swiss Crypto Stamps.
Stamps always followed improvements in the technology. Today these improvements are faster than ever, and today we have terms like crypto and NFT. It was just a matter of time when new technologies shall be related to stamps and philately. Let’s see what UN says about crypto stamps:
“Crypto stamps bring the traditional stamp collecting experience into the digital age. A crypto stamp is a physical stamp that is connected to its digital twin stored in a blockchain network. This digital twin is typically in the form of a non-fungible token (NFT), which represents a unique and verifiable digital asset. By linking the digital and the physical counterparts of this product, the security-related advantages of the blockchain technology get transferred onto the physical stamp, making it counterfeit proof. Moreover, this linkage enables collectors to engage with stamps in new, exciting ways.” - Universal Postal Union
Although philately is more of a physical hobby, this will definitely change it in a manner and bring something new. Today we’ll take a look at Swiss Post (Die Post) crypto stamp issues from 2021, 2022, and 2023.
